Frank Viva started out as an illustrator working for places like Time, Esquire, The New York Times and The Boston Globe. He later began a second career as a graphic designer. These days, Frank lectures when asked (and sometimes when not), is a cover artist for The New Yorker magazine, judges competitions and sits on two college advisory boards. A past president of The Advertising & Design Club of Canada, he is passionate about cooking, wine and his daily bike ride to the office. His first children’s picture book will be published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in spring 2011.
Todd Temporale graduated with honours from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. Before cofounding Viva & Co., he was an associate at Viva Dolan for eight years. His two-dimensional work includes award-winning design for identity systems, consumer packaging, websites, magazines, catalogues and annual reports. Todd’s work in industrial design includes custom seating, lighting and store fixtures. The Temporale family has contributed to the design life of Toronto for several generations. Todd’s father is a noted architect and his grandfather, sculptor Louis Temporale, carved many of Ontario’s landmarks, including the art deco bas-relief along the facade of the 1939 postal building on Front Street (now part of the Air Canada Centre). Todd is also a partner along with Frank in Whigby, a Canadian design and manufacturing company with products selling in museum stores and shops in North America and Europe.
